It’s all go for the Chevron City to Surf Marathon

Good news.

We have received news that David has been accepted to run with his wheelbarrow in the Chevron City to Surf Marathon held in Perth on Sunday 29th August.

There will be 1,000 other marathon runners running the course along the Swan River,  up and down the hills of Kings Park to the finish at City Beach  with 40,000 other runners  who will be doing 12kms and starting an hour later.

Check out the route at www.citytosurf.activ.as.au

Although some months old (21st April 2010) attached are some pictures of David taken at the Governor’s Ballroom in Perth.  There David received an award of acknowledgement for his massive run across Australia from The Governor of Western Australia Mr Michael and the CEO of Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia Andrew Giles.

Chevron City to Surf Marathon

Hello everyone

David is hoping to gain permission to run with his barrow in the Chevron City to Surf Marathon Sunday 29th August.

At long last I am able to upload pictures onto the website. We were using an old website version and in doing so it took away my ability to upload pictures.

The Perth Marathon

Wheelbarrow Man David took part in the Perth Marathon (State Championship) today without his beloved wheelbarrow (due to the number of runners), and despite cramps in his left leg, managed to finish the 42km run in 3 hours and 25 minutes.

Conditions were near perfect with temperatures of 19c, a flat course and hardly any wind.

After the event  David was presented with an album full of pictures of his two runs, The Run Across Australia and The Outback Challenge put together by Masters runner Elaine Dance.  It must have taken Elaine months to compile and it was filled with many inspiring messages.  David and Jo were very touched.

Prior to the start of the relay Jo was forced to alter her initial 15km run leg to to a shorter 9.3km leg because of a niggling knee injury, but all went well and she ran well thanks to the support of the other three members of the Petite 4′s, Margaret Bennett and Brian Smith.

Perth Marathon is on Sunday 20 June

Hi to you all

David will be running the Perth Marathon this Sunday 20 June 2010.  The weather is expected to be cloudy and hopefully there will be no rain.

Unfortunately David  will be without his barrow because the cycle paths are too narrow.

Jo is starting half an hour after David at  8am and is in a team of four called the “Petite 4″!!!!! The first leg is 14.3kms.

5 Hours 4 minutes for the Bunbury Ultra 50kms

David completed the 50 km Ultra Marathon in a fabulous 5 hours and 4 minutes.

David covered the first 21kms in 1hr 40 minutes then at the 33km mark his left calf started locking up.  Fortunately we anticipated this happening and had Magnesium powder  available  ( I was riding my bike alongside of David), and only after repeated doses was he able to able to keep the cramping at bay and to slow his pace.

David was a little disappointed in not being able to get in under 5 hours but in saying this his initial aim was to do the run in under 5.5 hours, so it made up for the disappointment.

The course itself was very hilly and  a headwind was blowing but it was the last 8 kms that were the most difficult for David who had to run back into the finish, do a circuit around the oval, and then run out and up a hill to do the final 8 kms.

David finished the run feeling tired and relieved that it was over.  The barrow was then pushed through the crowd by a visiting Japanese runner who successfully collected $200 for the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
