We are really enjoying our stay in Kununurra. It’s the dry season here but temperatures are a warm, humid 33-35c, so it must be very oppressive during the wet season.
We have been fortunate to enjoy a fabulous informative bus and boat tour by Triple J Tours of the Ord River Dam, Lake Argyle, Durack House, lagoons and waterways.
Today we visited Kununurra’s markets and have booked in for a Cane Toad hunt tomorrow night. Apparently the dreaded cane toads have established in one of the lagoons here and will soon be in all the waterways. We are under no illusion how futile our efforts may be but wish to help. The toads will be gassed.
Since we will be working alongside waterways filled with crocodiles we hope we won’t get eaten in the process!
The Intervention is being handled differently in of the states and unlike Alice Springs and Katherine we don’t have to show our Driver’s Licence here to purchase alcohol. In an effort to control the street drinking no one is allowed to purchase alcohol before midday (Monday to Saturday).
