Pictured above is the school David’s children Verity, Heidi and Adam went to when they lived in Blackwater.
Fairbairn Dam is the place where the family went to on weekends for some relief from the heat to picnic on the shady grassed slopes or water ski.
40kms from Emerald are the gemfields of Rubyvale, Anakie which we visited on our way to Longreach. We had a lot of fun and learn’t a lot about the gemfield history on a mine tour and while panning for gems at Pat’s Gems. Unfortnately we didn’t find any gems of value so it’s back to pushing the barrow
The wheelbarrow race David did for 11 years (18kms and the reason why David chose to run with a wheelbarrow) started from this area (Anakie) and finished at Rubyvale.(see pictured below).
