Blackwater is a mining town 263kms east of Rockhampton and is where David worked for over twenty years as an underground miner for Cook Colliery and Thiess. When we arrived at 2.30pm Wednesday we were greeted by members of the Blackwater Council, Rotary and people who knew David from twenty years ago who had a sausage sizzle organized for us. An amount of $82 was also collected for Prostate and Breast Cancer which we were very grateful for.
After that great welcome we then took a drive around the streets stopping off to visit the hospital where David’s son Lawrence was born and to look at the accomodation David also lived in and the house that the family lived (Long St). We took so long that our plans to stay overnight at the Bedford Weir had to be shelved, so we ended up parking on the lawn of a house right next door to where David lived with the family!
On Friday night we met with members of the Rumble 2 the Top before they took off for Darwin the next morning. One special and stand out member was Tex and his dog Bundi who travels everywhere with his owner on the front of his bike! Bundi is the only dog to have travelled 220kms on a motorcycle.

Hi Both,
Bet that felt like being home!! Did you wake up and start to get ready for work!
Glad to see having a nice time, and nice to see the pic of the hospital.

Dad says what’s “work?” From now on it’s just blue skies and chasing the horizon with barrow in tow.
Really enjoyed Blackwater, tell Mum, Verity and Heidi that there will be photos of the school and the house that they lived in Long Street posted on the website soon.
Ran around town with a local runner and had a hard job keeping up with him until Dad got to the corner of Long Street, then Dad blew him away. There is a little bit of speed left in Dad’s old legs yet.
Dad is looking forward to racing Lawson in Dad’s wheelchair.
Jo and I are at Fairburn Dam and Dad is looking forward to running the 20km back to Emerald.
Take care and lots of love
Dad and Joxx
