Run from Gladstone to Rockhampton starts Tues 24th March

MEDIA RELEASE

Date: March 23rd, 2009

66 year-old local Rockhampton boy and Endurance Athlete, David Baird will be running from Gladstone to Rockhampton training for his next challenge “The Outback Challenge”

(David will run start his run  from Gladstone on Tuesday 24th March and will arrive at the Main Post Office in Rockhampton approximately midday Thursday 26th March 2009)

On the 10th January 2009 65-year-old endurance athlete David Baird successfully completed a massive 4115km World Record Run with a Wheelbarrow across Australia (Perth to Sydney)

Along the 112- day journey ‘Wheelbarrow Man’ Dave as he became known, battled the elements of wind, rain and heat in dangerous roadside conditions day after day, all in the name of fundraising for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) and the Breast Cancer Foundation of Western Australia.

During this time David averaged a marathon a day.

This extraordinary man has participated in some amazing challenges, including being part of a 12-man cycling team, which saw him set six Guinness World Records cycling non-stop around Australia in 1996.

Since then, due to the overwhelming response he has received on finishing the event, David is planning another challenging run  with his wheelbarrow known as the Barrow of Hope.

This time not content with running just a marathon a day, David is looking at 920kms in under 21 days.

The event is scheduled for May 1st, 2009 and is to start at Alice Springs and go to Ulluru and back taking up to 21 days.

Uluru and Alice Springs has been chosen as the location because it represents “Australia” and The Outback symbolizes tough endurance conditions, which David is very familiar with.

Passionate about the Prostate and Beast Cancer cause, David will continue raising money throughout THE OUTBACK CHALLENGE.

During David’s stay in  Rockhampton he will been taking time to talk to people and fund raise for Prostate and Breast Cancer.
