Hello from Darlington Point

Hello everyone

We are now 7kms out of Darling Point heading towards Narrandera  65kms away.

Dave is feeling tired but is kept motivated by the signs for Sydney.

We can’t believe Christmas is so close.  So on Christmas day we will be at Wagga Wagga where Dave plans to run until 1pm and then take the rest day off for a yummy Christmas lunch.

Dave saw his first snake (a King Brown) while running outside of Hay a couple of days ago.  He thought it was a car tyre but when he was within a barrow length of the snake it turned on him.  Not wishing to wait to see what it would do, Dave took off to the opposite side of the road where he stayed until he felt safe to cross back over.  Workers on the highway told Dave later that snakes come to the road edge for warmth early in the morning.

After lunch Thursday it came over dark and thundery. Off road parking space was scarce and station entrances where I park were boggy, so in response to an urgent call from Dave  I had to quickly pull into a driveway and park in the thick grass to pick him up.
Dave got into the car and when it looked safe to start again he got out but less than  a kilometre up the road  the weather blew up with hail the size of marbles.  An urgent two-way call and I went back to Dave and had to park off road with emergency flashers on.  Heavy traffic made it very dangerous because of the volume of trucks using the road.  The hail was so large  it hit the windscreen with such force it felt it will go through the screen.(and has left some chips out of the windscreen.) Visibility was so bad we could only see 50metres ahead and behind us were two huge trucks.   With windscreen wipers going full we received a two-way call from a truckie behind us offering support and a suggestion we should call it a day.

So we did just that and went to Carrathool for the night.

Pictured above is a Toll truck driver making a donation.  What you can’t see in the picture is the other truck just in front of this truck who had also stopped to make a donation.  It was quite a sight and dwarfed our vehicle.
