Last night, at the inviation of the Koongawa community , Dave and I joined local farmers and their families for a barbecue and drinks at the Koongawa tennis courts located between Kyancutta and Kimba in South Australia.
The evening was perfect ..mild weather, no rain combined with counry style hospitaity and bush humour….and yep plenty to drink!
Had we been a week earlier only four of the twenty farmers would have been at the courts due to harvesting . Recent rains here have put everything on hold and until the wheat and barley dries out the farmers have to wait.
Judging by the good time had by everyone, the evening gave farmers and their families a chance to catch up with one another and enjoy a well earned break.
We were particularly touched by a donation they made to Prostate and Breast Cancer later in the evening of $125, which will go towards the $10,500 we have collected so far. We were also able to camp the night and use the tennis court facilities.
It is now 8.35am and we have been on the road for two hours. Dave has done 8kms and I am parked 12kms ahead. Dave has already been to the car tomake adjustments to his shoe and enjoy a quick cup of coffee before heading off. We are planning to finish 10kms short of Kimba tonight, but will drive in and park up at a caravan park for the night.
I am enjoying being able to access the internet from the laptop, but notice that service can drop out at locations. Yesterday for example I had access, then when I drove 6kms ahead it was gone.
Here are some pics we took at a small fuel station at Kyancutta yesterday 33kms west of Koongawa where we stopped for a brief coffee break.
