Hello from Kalgoorlie

Hi everyone..

Well here we are in Kalgoorlie and in only a matter of minutes Dave will be running down the main street, Hannan Street, to the surprise of many of the locals.

Dave has received great support from the radio, TV and print media here and many of the locals say they have seen him in their travels.

Dave finished 10 km short of Kalgoorlie yesterday to come into town to sit and collect money for Prostate and Breast Cancer in the main square St Barbara. This was Dave’s first break after 16 days of non-stop running so it also was an opportunity to rest his swollen left foot which is suffering.

Dave is often asked “what do you think about when you run?” Dave says he focuses on a point ahead and doesn’t let any negative thoughts such as his feet hurting or tiredness enter his thoughts.

In fact he’s busy concentrating on each step because the roadside surface is so rocky and slopes off to the right and the traffic coming up behind him.

We have also decided to alter his route out of Kalgoorlie to now go through Boulder and Kambalda on the way to Norseman.

had a look at ‘The Golden News’ Kalgoorlie newspaper – they reckon your feet have grown a size since you started your journey from a 10 to an 11!! Hey you know what? theres another Baird who has a size 11 and i know for a fact that he has about 200 pairs of shoes – so when you get back home go on down to mandurah and ask your brother to give you a few pairs until your feet shrink back to a size 10!!! He will of course deny that he has such a vast collection, but you know Rob and you know that its true! I have seen the special room the shoes live in – it’s scarey but true!!!! keep on running !! love verne etc xx
