Our aim is to get up early each day so Dave can get on the road before it gets too hot. It also means an earlier finish, which ensures we don’t have to rush to set up each evening.
Our inexperience with caravaning showed today when we tried to hitch the 4WD to the van. Thankfully Terry, a fellow caravaner, came to the rescue and gave us some great tips to make the process smoother.
By the time Dave finally started running this morning it was 8.30 so it was a frustrating start to the day.
The frustrating start was broken by a lovely visit from Masters Athletics runners Pam and Steve who thought they’d take a drive from Rockingham to see how Dave was going. They met up with Dave at a roadhouse just past El Caballo and shared a coffee with us (see the photos).
In between I have been honing my video skills from out the car window. So when Dave came into view at Bakers Hill, feeling confident, I rushed out of the vehicle and aimed it at Dave who was coming into the town. At that very minute half the road trains on Great Eastern Highway went past—so many that it was difficult to see Dave.
Dave is feeling stronger today despite the hills and strong winds and has been averaging 32 kms per day. He finished the day feeling tired.
We will be staying with friends in Northam overnight then coming back to Clackine tomorrow to start again.

All looks good. Shame about late start but you have plenty of time to get better. Tell Dad to keep safe on the roads and make sure you put the wheelbarrow somewhere safe at night so it does not get pinched.
Dad looks in good shape in those tights. Tell him I will be going for a long run on Sunday to support Dad – going to run as far as I can heading towards Lincoln from Grimsby. Will wear my wave to Dave top in honour of Dads effort.
lots of love lawrence
We are all enjoying the website. Well done Dad and Jo. Very proud of you both. Nick and I might join Lawrence on his run on Sunday, ( in the car though !!) The boys send their love and have asked if you are famous now. Go Dad Go xx
Hi Lawrence
Will pass your message on to Dad. He’s trying to get into the routine of an earlier start which as you say takes time.
Good luck with your run.
